“Catfishing Anthony Keidis” is the new single and music video from Madison, WI’s post-rock, noise outfit, Ghostar.
Alongside the single and music video, an interactive, text-based video game was created and released by the band. The video game and music video play on each others themes of confusion, anxiety, and the duality built throughout the song’s structure.
By playing the game, listeners can explore different paths and narratives but are warned to be careful as to not get lost along the way.
This is by far one of the strangest and most interesting things a band has ever sent my way. I’m impressed with the amount of extra effort this must have taken and it certainly didn’t go unappreciated.
“This was one of the first songs we wrote together as a band and it is actually a b-side from our first EP, Swelling. We wanted to do something a little different with this song as it stood our from our first EP sonically. The song has this a duality in it, straightforward then chaotic, dreamy then loud. I wanted to build a separate narrative from the song as it is an instrumental. I have built some text-based video games before for fun and just thought it would be fun to try and build something around this song. The idea of “Are You Lost?” stems from having an internal duality.
Fear, anxiety, loss, and confusion are all themes of the game and can be seen in the song’s arching, split nature. There isn’t a coherent story per se, it is more there for the player/listener to make choices, question their choices, then get confused and die (or not). The music video had a couple of different iterations, but we are happy with the simplistic and dizzying factor of it.”
