Mariah Belgrod is a pop artist who grew up in the Amish farm town of New Holland, Pennsylvania. She was exposed to performing arts at a very young age. At just 7 years old, she discovered her passion for music at Fulton Theatre in Lancaster, PA.
She went on to perform in plays and musicals and got heavily involved in dance. At age 15, though, she took a break from the stage due to her battle with depression.
In 2016, Mariah discovered the karaoke style app Smule. She found that this was a healthy way for her to express herself and find a community of like-minded people. She quickly gained a following of over 390,000 followers and went on to become a Verified Partner Artist and the face of the app itself.
In early 2018, she moved to the West Coast to pursue music as a career in Seattle. That same year she was nominated for an iHeartRadio Music Award for her work on Smule.
Mariah just released her latest single, “i hate myself”. The title might suggest that this is surface level tongue-in-cheek self deprecating humor. Once you listen, you discover it’s more than that.
This is a song about self discovery and self awareness. Being able to pin point the fact that someone is bad for your mental health and cutting them off is tough to do and equally necessary.
Everything about this track is catchy. The melody is bouncy and the vocals are perfectly mixed. If you’re looking to make pop music in 2021 and beyond, take notes.
