We first got to know jarodpanda back in March when he dropped his EP, Understand.
That short collection of songs was markedly darker in vibe and theme than what he would begin working on afterward. My favorite track “Pressure” did give us a slight glimpse of what was to come.
His new single “Floating” finds the developing pop star exploring an interesting mixture of alt R&B and future bass.
This track’s concept was meant for a side project that he was working on in April. The file sat stagnant on a PC for months until he revisited it with new perspective. He remarks “I find that sometimes I have ideas that I can’t execute on so I just give it a big break and rework on it with fresh ears.”
The breakdown with the wonky synth reminds me of something out of Banjo Kazooie. I always enjoy when sounds unlock old memories like that.
