We last checked in with Luke Seymoup back in December. Quarantine hadn’t been kind to any of us but he didn’t seem to let it slow him down.
If you’re an artist of any kind you’re probably all too familiar with the inner hurdle of self doubt. That is exactly the subject of Seymoup’s new single “Average”.
This song marks an important milestone as it’s the first time since his 2017 debut, The Professional, that he’s joined by his live backing band.
My initial reaction when seeing this push was that I loved the cover art. I love when album art makes me ask questions, which this certainly did. I knew if the song was anywhere near as strong as that visual, I’d have to add it to my personal playlist.
It sounds obvious to say, but this single finds the Luke Seymoup project feeling whole again.
The attitude in the vocal delivery and the effects on the guitars feel really 90’s and make me nostalgic as I listen.
The folk and punk fusion that Seymoup is so proficient at creating just never gets old. It’s such an interesting mix of sounds. To me, it’s like if Lagwagon collided at high speed with New Wave and Folk music.
The song insanely catchy, you will have the melody stuck in your head.
“Average” was recorded at Seymoup’s home studio and mixed/mastered by Daniel Antix at Def Wolf Studios.
