We got to know indie rock outfit The Lookout Service a few months ago when they released their third single “Shut Me Out”.
The Toronto duo have returned with the second single off of their upcoming EP, I’m Not Going Anywhere.
TLS says that “Warm Summer Air” was inspired by French Chanson music. They decided to depart from their usual garage rock sound and opted for something more theatrical and dynamic.
The bouncy melody and percussion reminds me a little of one of my favorites, Gatsby’s American Dream.
This is the farthest that TLS has leaned toward pop music.
This track is really interesting because it’s almost like two separate parts fused together. The beginning feels almost adult contemporary pop and by the time you make it to the 2:00 mark, the song opens up to become an indie rock anthem.
It’s refreshing to see a band exploring new sounds and ways of expressing themselves.
“Warm Summer Air is definitely one of the happier songs I’ve ever written, and feels the most upbeat and cheerful. I wrote the song in the middle of a cold Canadian winter, longing for the warmth of summer and all the joys that it brings. The song is about the ups and downs that you feel when with a lover and knowing that through all the bad times more good times will come. The song is an outcry and a reassurance that you will always be loved by the ones that you love.” – Stergios Kalochoridis
