Hannah Rooth is a singer/songwriter from Northwest Washington.
She released her debut EP,Wild Hum, in September of 2019 and hasn’t slowed down since.
Rooth is a self taught vocalist and songwriter. Some of her early influences and the artists she recalls teaching her to sing include Norah Jones and Amy Winehouse.
She has just unleashed her newest single, “Dust”. The vocals for this track were recorded in one night, in one take. That’s not for lack of effort but rather for keeping the soul in the delivery.
The melancholy piano intro sets a dark tone which gradually brightens a bit to become a haunting yet beautiful instrumental.
The overall vibe of the song reminds me of one of my favorites, Copeland.
It’s extremely clear that this is Rooth’s emotional outlet, and she’s not holding anything back.
I began to notice her vocal performance getting more intense as the song continued. I really enjoyed the slightly distant effect on her voice. It really made it feel like I was hearing this live in a small theatre.
The track is exactly the right length to be effective. It doesn’t fall into the trap of dragging on too long, clocking in at under 4 minutes.
“Dust” is somber yet extremely powerful and bold. This one made me contemplate the finite nature of life. If you like Bjork, Florence + the Machine, or The Xx, you have to listen to Hannah Rooth.
