We got to know Florida post-hardcore band I Met a Yeti back in 2019.
Ever since then we’ve been streaming Camp Yeti and hoping the band would make a triumphant return.
Return they did, and clearly they were ready to outdo themselves.
The band just released their first single since Camp Yeti, “Opulence”. The track features another staple of the genre, pulses.
These two bands balance the tightrope of heavy subject matter with “Opulence”. In their own words, it’s purpose is to “personify the sensation of pure distilled shame.”
This track is perfectly crafted with some amazing math rock breakdowns.
Daisy’s vocals remind me a bit of one of my personal favorites, Chris Conley (Saves the Day).
The background vocal harmonies are expertly mixed and balanced.
The heavy parts of the song will tear you to shreds in the best way possible.
This is one of those dream collaborations that you just don’t think would ever materialize. We survived a pandemic, and as a reward, we’ve received one of the best post-hardcore songs recorded in years, “Opulence”.
I Met a Yeti on the making of the song:
“We began writing “Opulence” in Sacramento, California while staying in a motel for a couple of nights between tour dates. “Opulence” quickly evolved into the foundation for the upcoming EP. In many ways, it defined the sound we aimed for while writing the rest of the album. We recorded this song with Matt Goings of Killian Studios, who also engineered/produced/mixed, and mastered Camp Yeti. We also worked with Kyle Hoffer for the first time on this song, having him track Daisy’s vocals. Caleb Taylor and Matt Burridge of Pulses. lent their voices to this track, singing and screaming lyrics written by their drummer Kevin Taylor.“
