Joem is a pop singer/songwriter from Helsinki.
She began her musical journey playing saxophone. While studying at the Conservatory and University of Helsinki, she began to shift focus to vocals.
This decision was born more out of necessity after she started suffering from chronic nerve pain. The struggles with pain and subsequent depression led Joem to give her all to her dream of making music.
“One Shot” was actually conceived and fully written back in 2019. Realizing the track needed something more, Joem reached out on Instagram for feature suggestions.
The first lead she followed up on was a New Jersey rapper by the name of Blind Eyez. Despite being total strangers, he was interested in the track and ended up recorded a verse for it.
There’s a definite Lady Gaga influence that was clear to me from the very beginning of the track. The dance pop vibe deepens as the beat drops and takes the listener to the dance floor.
This song grew on me the more I listened to it. Blind Eyez did a great job of fitting the vibe of the song. It’s even more impressive to me that he was able to complement the track so well when the two never actually met. This whole collaboration was done online, and I think we’re already seeing that shift for the future of music as whole.
