Clay Newsom is a singer/songwriter from Walker, Louisiana. He grew up in a family band and has quite literally always been immersed in music.
After high school, he attended Berklee College of Music where he honed his craft and tested his abilities.
Now at age 26, Newsom reflects on finding his sound throughout his early 20’s:
“I’ve always loved writing and producing music, but recently I feel like I’ve had a breakthrough with my own sound and how I’d like to express myself as an artist.”
With a background in blues, Newsom has recently shifted his focus to pop music.
His new single “Innocent Crime” is a solid step in that direction. The blues/soul influence is still undeniable and expertly paired with a catchy melody and clever hooks.
There’s no way not to make a comparison to pop music heavyweight Bruno Mars. The simple and stripped down instrumental pulses and dares you to dance.
Newsom’s vocals take a front seat on this release, proving his ability without question. His voice has a certain power behind it that you don’t hear often. He has a valuable gift of being able to navigate the quiet moments as well as ones where he needs to belt his heart out.
