GHOSTSHAFT is a multi-instrumentalist and producer from Indiana.
He has spent over a decade writing music and started making beats 3 years ago, completely DIY.
DOMINO is a producer/vocalist from College Park, Georgia. He was exposed to music early, growing up in choir and band.
He cites a few of his influences as A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul.
Their new collab album, Natural Reactor just dropped last week.
It begins with a spoken word intro about overcoming the fear that holds us back. The effects on the voices and the guitar loop in the background make for a somewhat creepy atmosphere.
The voices fade out to make way for a transition that feels like walking into a haunted house. The hallways of said house lead us to DOMINO’s first verses on the record. His delivery mixed with the truly experimental nature of the beat reminds me a little of good kid-era Kendrick Lamar.
At moments where most emcees would falter due to the abnormal instrumental, DOMINO seems to flourish and find solace in the challenge.
The tracks all bleed together to form a 20 minute piece of art that gives new meaning to the term “mind-bending”.
The instrumentals throughout this release have definite roots in southern sub-genres like phonk, chopped and screwed as well as west coast hip-hop. This duo has done a great job of embodying the haziness we all felt inside during 2020.
The album’s inception was in October of 2020, which is evident when you hear some of the quarantine inspired lyrics. Both GHOST and DOMINO switched off vocal and production duties on this LP.
All improvised guitar by GHOSTSHAFT.
