ÊMIA is a Vietnamese American singer, songwriter and producer. I would describe her music as “dance pop” if I had to pin it to a genre.
She cites her personal influences as electronic music, R&B, film scores and musical theatre.
As a teenager, she cultivated a following on YouTube doing cover songs of artists like Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars.
Her 2019 EP, Little Secret gained traction and found her placed in Spotify playlists like Fresh Finds and DOPE AF.
She just released her new single “Bet You Left it Out”. The track has an instrumental that’s equal parts 80’s dance and future bass. At first listen it reminded me of Chèlle’s “Hallucinating You”.
ÊMIA’s voice has a more mature tone than what I was expecting. This sounds like an artist who’s more than used to crafting perfect pop songs. It’s worth mentioning that the mix and master (by Austin Hull) is flawless. Everything about the song works in harmony, culminating in a guitar solo moment at the breakdown.
Her ability to write a catchy hook is deeply impressive. As a result, don’t be surprised if this song is stuck in your head even after only one listen.
