Richard Berger is an indie musician from Philadelphia, who now resides in Los Angeles. He’s been releasing music since 2018 and shows no signs of slowing down the output.
He mentions drawing influence from Tame Impala, which is evident in his unique brand of psychedelic electronica.
After a steady release schedule of singles during 2019 and 2020, Berger just released his first full length album, Where Did it Go?, in January 2021.
When you listen to Where Did it Go?, you’re entering a dreamy landscape where the influence of The Flaming Lips and Tame Impala are equally present.
There’s something very relaxing about this entire record. The synths drive each song, allowing Berger’s vocals to be their supplement. The basslines are super funky and balance out the songs nicely.
The more I listened, the more I noticed similarities with Gorillaz as well. Especially on tracks like “Like I’m Wanting You”. There’s some new wave and 80’s elements here that can’t be ignored.
