John McLucas is an producer/artist from California who recently stepped out from behind the DAW and began making what he refers to as “angst pop”.
He has been through his fair share of ups and downs. From being homeless to touring and opening for TOOL, Primus, and Coheed and Cambria, his experiences (both positive and negative) have shaped the artist he is today.
His new single, “i’m vibing (on anxiety)” was made with a premise of modelling the energy of a classic Juice WRLD song, “righteous.” It reminds me a bit of early blackbear (before he went all the way mainstream pop).
Youtuber samuraiguitarist wrote and recorded all of the guitar on the song. The entire writing process was done virtually between California, New York, and Canada.
The track also features a newcomer to the music scene, Savannah Kovacs. She has performed all over the U.S. and currently freelances as a topliner and session vocalist, recording lead and background vocals for other artists such as Dose Coast and Jacre.
McLucas and Kovacs’ voices are beyond smooth and the vocal performances are effortless and natural. The collaboration shows off everyone’s talent without any one part smothering the others.
