Taspii (Tahj Spigner) is a 23 year-old producer from Orange County, California.
Growing up, music was a big part of his life. He played jazz trumpet for a time and began producing music with a DAW in his junior year of college.
Spigner attended Carnegie Mellon and double majored in mechanical and biomedical engineering.
After getting his degrees, he worked as a medical device engineer from 2019 until September of 2020. At that point he decided to leave that job and pursue music and art full time.
Last March, he began to explore the world of 3D art and has started designing his own cover art.
Taspii just released a new EP titled Too. The run time is fairly short with only 4 tracks.
In just the first few minutes of the first track “Bitch”, you find yourself traversing several sub-genres including synthwave and trap.
There are lots of complex elements in this song and those that follow that make for a super dynamic listen.
“All You Need” starts out almost sinister, with dark pulsing drums. This track has a more house music feel that doesn’t invite you to dance, it insists.
Our first taste of hard dubstep is introduced at the drop.
There is definitely a science to Taspii’s music. He always seems to know when to switch things up to keep your interest.
“Top” is sparse and robotic at the beginning, morphing into a spacey trap epic.
I promise you, you aren’t ready for this FILTHY drop at 1:18.
Too is constructed with the perfect amount of chaos that forces you to sport your bass face, despite your surroundings.
The level of sound design used on this release is impressive, especially considering Taspii is relatively new to producing.
The closing track, “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” is the most experimental song on the EP and I think is a look into what to expect from Taspii in the future.
Throughout the whole release you’ll find vocal samples being used as instruments, and nowhere more so than this track.
Taspii is unmatched at finding drops and samples that will catch you off guard.
