Paging Doctor Moon is an indie band from Brooklyn founded by singer/songwriter Kirsten Hiebert.
The group was formed in 2018 under a different moniker and regularly played shows all around New York City.
They have just released their second single, “Haunted” which features production, mixing and mastering by Julian Giaimo.
The song explores why we hold onto relationships when they’re toxic.
In my opinion, Hiebert has shown immense growth since her first single.
Using her vocals as the main instrument, Kirsten has a way of harmonizing with herself that creates this echo-y, breathy effect that reminds me of a bit of Bjork.
A more accurate way to describe “Haunted” would be, a better produced and more listenable Kimya Dawson. The lyrics are deeply personal and sound as though they’re being read directly from a diary.
At 2 minute mark the instrumentation picks up, swells and mirrors the emotion in the vocals perfectly.
This song comes in layers and with subsequent listens I notice it’s increasingly easier to get swept up in the sonic waves.
