Sara Henya is a singer/songwriter and professional harp player from Philidelphia, PA.
I can honestly say that Sara’s submission to the blog was a first for me. I get sent a lot of different types of music, but a harpist has never even been on my radar. That being said, this is one of those songs I didn’t know I needed until it was in front of me.
If you had to categorize her music, Fantasy Pop is the genre this fits in best. The melodies and complexities in her music stand to highlight her personal struggles with Tourette Syndrome.
Sara released her debut EP, Small World Alchemy back in 2018. It quickly got the attention of some of the biggest Folk and Alternative radio programs, Out of the Woods and Power Folk to name a few.
She was fortunate enough to tour and play shows before that became not so much an option. She also gained a lot of popularity by being a part of conventions such as BaltiCon and PhilCon.
The new video for the single, “Pancakes” had my attention immediately simply because I love breakfast food. My interest soon became deeper when I realized how well done this music video is. I would never have guessed that this is a relatively new artist.
The harp and minimal percussion accentuate her already incredible voice.
The song is fun, to put it simply. Way too often I think artists’ want to release heavy material to prove a point.
She goes the other direction and reminds us all that music and the process of making it can still be enjoyable and lighthearted. Sometimes, we need to turn to music as an escape from some of the darkness of life. Sara Henya is giving us a way to do just that.
She not only uploads music videos to her YouTube but also things like “Turning my Friend into a Fairy” and “My Tattoo Tour” so you can get to know her a bit better.
