We got to know Vermont post-punk outfit Pons back in October. At that point they had just released their debut full length album, Intellect.
Now, just a few short months later, Pons prove that they haven’t been wasting any time with a new release, BIRD AND BOY.
BIRD AND BOY is a live album with accompanying short performance film.
I didn’t think it was possible, but this release is even noisier and more chaotic than the LP. The level of theatrics in Pons’ music is matched only by Foxy Shazam in the mid 2000’s.
The influence of bands like The Strokes and Death From Above 1979 are apparent here, but Pons takes those influences, smokes them, and presents us with their inebriated brand of experimental rock.
At a time when we’re watching the veterans of punk rock sell out and make badly written pop music, Pons gives us a refreshing “don’t give a fuck” attitude that pushes post-punk forward to unknown territory.
