Michelle Cavaleri, also known as Chèlle, is a singer/songwriter from Toronto, Canada. She was certainly born with music in her blood. She managed to learn piano and guitar before her 12th birthday.
Shortly after, at age 13, she began to write and perform original songs at bars and small venues.
Her next logical step was to learn production, which she did, and began to cut demos of her own. Along her musical journey, she also got a degree in vocal jazz performance.
In 2013, Michelle appeared on YTV’s singing competition, “Supergroup”. The next year, her journey led her to Nashville where she quickly integrated into the songwriting community.
She went on to get signed to Akashic Records in 2017 and released 4 different singles through the label. This last year, in 2020, Michelle made the difficult decision to part with the label and continue her quest as an independent artist.
She just released her new single (the second since her rebrand), “Hallucinating You”. It’s a disco inspired track with obvious influence from Whitney Houston and Ariana Grande.
I initially fell in love with this song because the intro reminded me a lot of one of my new favorite artists and fellow Canadian, Madison Olds.
There’s a definite 80’s feel to the driving synths and bright production. If this song doesn’t make you dance you may want to check your pulse.
“I wrote this song with my producer, Jonathan Karkar on the day we met. As soon as we got into the studio together, I knew we had a special chemistry that will result in creating something great. It was his idea to use Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” as the main inspiration behind this track. We wanted to experience the same emotion we felt from Houston’s song, while creating ours. Jon began playing with an 80’s inspired synth that I loved, and we built the production from there. Before we knew it, we wrote a nostalgic, energetic dance song that takes you through all the feels. Dreaming, hallucinating, craving, desire, and love. In a matter of 3 sessions the song was complete, and we feel we created something very special. I hope listeners experience the same amount of excitement as I did when I was writing this song. I hope it transports them to a time in their life where all that mattered was loving the person in front of them, and living for the moment.” – Chèlle
