Shan Hollywood is an 18 year old musician from Baltimore, Maryland.
He has adopted a DIY approach in which he produces and performs all his own material.
“Devil In Heaven” was the first of his tracks I had heard. This one is definitely for fans of Tame Impala and MGMT.
He does a really good job mixing indie rock with hip-hop elements.
Shan’s newer track “In My Eyes” has a bit more of a traditional singer/songwriter feel to it, in a similar vein to Elliott Smith.
The B track to that single, “Veronica” has a really interesting pedal effect that serves as a main instrument almost secondary to the guitar going through it.
It occurred to me after many subsequent listens to this newest single that this reminds me of if Bright Eyes had a bit more of a hip-hop grit within their arsenal. This just seems to me to be a logical evolution (20 years later) of early 2000’s Saddle Creek Records.
Experimental music that channels everything from 70’s rock to folk to new wave. This is music that you shouldn’t bother trying to define by genre. Just listen and enjoy the sonic channels of a true artist.
