Eddy Marshall is a NYC based singer/songwriter. He grew up playing music, beginning to learn guitar at age 10.
After finishing high school, Marshall studied at University of Vermont. While in college he began to play local live shows at spots like the Radio Bean.
He eventually transferred his studies to Berklee College of music where he would go on to obtain a degree in music education.
Marshall has been releasing music since 2015 and he cites some of his early influences as Ray Charles and Norah Jones. Two vastly different ends of the sonic spectrum to pull influence from.
The result is a sound that I can only liken to a band like The Flaming Lips.
His newest single “Gabby” manages to infuse pop, soul, blues, and even stoner rock in a way that really works. There’s a folk element to this song that comes full circle with the female vocal callbacks near mid-track.
Marshall clearly has an affinity for storytelling as he manages to paint a clear picture with this combination of lyrics and instrumental arrangements.
With music and lyrics written by Eddy Marshall and production by Kurt Thum, “Gabby” explores the importance of the simplicity in love often left behind through the hustle and bustle of everyday routines.
“I woke up humming the first line of this song one morning and spent the entire rest of the day sitting in bed expanding upon just that idea,” says Eddy. “I have no idea where it came from, but every time I wake up now I check to see if I have a melody in the back of my head.”
