Platonic Perfumes is an Eastern European indie rock band. Based in Hungary, the band just formed at the beginning of 2020.
After putting out a few singles and an EP, they recently released their first full length album, The Scent of Madness.
The band, by their own admission, don’t take themselves too seriously and are clearly having fun creating together. They enjoy mixing the art of humor with their music. That’s not to say that they make jokes in their songs.
The material actually feels sort of heavy at moments.
Something about this feels inspired by improvisational jazz. The track “In a Fight With Dave” was the first moment I noticed an apparent Radiohead influence here that seemed to persist upon the rest of my listening experience.
Additionally, if you’re a fan of Foxy Shazam I feel like you will appreciate the strange sonic qualities of Platonic Perfumes. There’s a definite 60’s acid rock feel to the airy atmosphere of this entire LP.
