Malpractice is a 4-piece Canterberry based band. The group consists of Oli Dodd, Conor Stanfield, Mattie Mascarenhas, and Leon Ingham. The four met in school and quickly began creating music with a sound rooted in punk, jazz, and rock.
They released a strong debut single, “Cymbals” back in May. The track was a pissed-off anthem written by Oli to “express the anger, reality, and complexity of drug use as seen by the perspective of the onlooker.”
Loud, fast, and in your face are all terms one could easily use to describe “Cymbals” sonically.
The band’s second single “Worlds” is an equally angry effort. This time, aiming the frustration at the current state of the word.
The song was recorded at Arts Education Exchange in Margate after the band won the AEE competition that paid for their studio time.
“Worlds” is a bit more accessible for someone who isn’t an avid punk fan. The sentiment of “the world we live in is doomed” is more relatable than ever in 2020.
This band clearly has something to say and they aren’t shy about their displeasure of the current systems running our world.
