Drone Fields is the moniker of Pablo Bellinghausen, a Mexican-German multi-instrumentalist and producer living and studying in the UK. After obtaining a sound engineering degree at The School of Audio Engineering in East London, he moved to Canterberry to study digital arts. He also built a high-end miniature home studio and began to develop this new project.
Drone Fields’ music has electropop, synthwave, trap, and trip hop influences.
His newest track, “The Waters Above” gave me the same feeling I got the first time I heard the Drive soundtrack.
All I can picture is driving down the strip in Miami in a drop top at night.
It’s very easy to make comparisons to artists like Lazerhawk and Kavinski. What I began to notice as the vocals kicked in is an underlying influence of A Perfect Circle.
When I mentioned that to Pablo, he was a bit surprised. He said he loved their first few albums, but didn’t even realize they were an influence on this project. It’s funny how a fresh set of ears can pick up different facets of a song or album.
The synths and the drums give off a great 80’s vibe without sounding forced. This track is really beautiful and easy to get lost in.
