Origami Button is an independent alternative rock band from Chicago. The band is made up of five musicians who met while studying at Columbia College Chicago.
They describe themselves as “Math Rock for people who don’t like Math Rock.”
That assessment is pretty accurate as far as I’m concerned. The band cite their collective influences as bands like Dance Gavin Dance, Minus the Bear, and Incubus.
Last year, OB hit a major milestone with 900,000 streams on Spotify of their EP, Button Season.
After spending 2019 touring with artists like Kurt Travis, Andrés, and Narco Debut, the band have spent most of 2020 quarantined, fine tuning their sophomore release.
The first sign of which is the upbeat, energetic new single, “Nervous”.
The vocal cadence immediately reminded me of three of my favorite bands; Gatsby’s American Dream, Receiving End of Sirens, and Envy on the Coast.
A punk rock influence is evident with the upbeat pace and overall attitude of these songs.
What will you find in Origami Button’s music?
Complex stylistic riffs, familiar driving drums with tons of personality, and
super powerful vocals that are unassuming until they pop off with some of these vocal riffs.
To put it simply, if you like melodies, this is the band for you.
This new single has a really clean mix and master. Their sound is definitely bigger and brighter on “Nervous”. This makes me really excited to hear what their second project will sound like.
