Kurt Codeine is a Los Angeles based producer/songwriter. He spent years doing both for other artists and has recently decided to enter the scene as an artist himself.
In his own words, “I make vibes, not songs.” and that seems to be an accurate assertion.
Much like Future and Young Thug before him, Kurt is very good at curating a feeling. To me, that’s all that’s required to make a great song.
I would point to XXXTentacion’s “Moonlight” as a shining example of what I mean by this.
His newest track, “Dracula” was produced by poolboybeats (@xpoolboyx)
The atmosphere builds well at the beginning. Normally I don’t care for longer intros, but I feel like this 25 seconds is necessary to set the tone.
The vocal treatment is on point, well mixed without drowning out the things that make Codeine’s voice special. The snares and synth hits in the background make for a darker, fantasy based listening experience.
If you played this song for me without telling me who it was, I would legitimately guess Trippie Redd.
If you like modern trap/hip-hop but want something with more feeling and purpose to it, check out Kurt Codeine.
