Aidan Fox a.k.a. 2LATE is a 20 year old singer/producer from Boston. He’s currently attending Northeastern University while following his dream of making music.
When explaining the 2LATE project, Aidan states:
“2LATE isn’t me. It’s an inquiry into the unknown—a commitment to curiosity about the world around and within oneself. It’s about being a human, something that we can never fully understand, but we can attempt to articulate in endless ways. The human experience is incredibly intricate and delicate, something we often overlook as we naturally enter routine. 2LATE breaks out of that routine, a much needed escape and newfound perspective.”
The goal with LOST SUMMER was to make a 5 song project with various styles of music. Each track was to be accompanied by photo and video content that all revolved around real journal entries.
The hope was to create a documentary of sorts showing the real process of creating a purposeful piece of music.
Each track on LOST SUMMER includes:
-Curated photo spread in the scrapbook journal
-Time lapse video of the journal entry actually being written
-Individual cover art
-Promo video featuring synced lyrics.
This project was born from lofty ambitions and is executed better than I anticipated. The vocals aren’t over-corrected and the mix is crisp. This sounds like the work of someone who’s been in the pop music game for a significant amount of time.
I can’t help but make comparisons to The Weeknd and Post Malone but with a bit more substance.
On the opening track, “Epiphany”, we see 2LATE already displaying multiple flows including a pretty impressive faster verse during the breakdown.
The second track, “Excite” is where the Post Malone comparison really comes into play. There’s also elements of more traditional R&B sprinkled into this entire release.
The track “I Want it All” takes an interesting turn and feels almost indie rock inspired, complete with a drum kit driving the beat.
There’s a great vocal range displayed throughout this entire EP.
2LATE brings the soul on the 4th track, “Never Come Back” and hits a falsetto that will make your jaw drop.
The closer, “Stars”, has a warm synth fitting of a conclusion.
All of these songs are fantastic and this is truly one of those rare releases that leaves me wanting more. Not because it’s incomplete, but because the potential here just seems so limitless I’m beyond curious to see what 2LATE brings us in 2021.
