Sqwd is a moniker used by electronic musician Dylan Falgoust. His passion for music grew at an early age, playing guitar with his dad, learning the piano from this cousin, and bumping a ton of 90’s rave cassettes.
He clearly is not at a loss for inspiration, releasing four albums in just a little over two short years. His debut Skull EP, came out in 2016 and he’s been consistently dropping singles and LP’s since then.
He’s heavily influenced by artists such as Flying Lotus, Skrillex, and Flume.
Not only does he produce music, but he also does 3D graphics for himself and other artists within the Vapor Twitch sub-niche. Both the audio and visual aspects of the Sqwd project stand out with his own unique spin on things.
His newest single, “The Off Chance You Love Me” featuring vocalist CARLIE, has been featured on EARMILK and continues to get attention from mainstream and indie media alike.
The track definitely has a hypnotic quality. CARLIE’s vocals are intense yet still beautiful. The synth swells in the chorus really brighten up what may otherwise be a sort of dark song.
Things like reverb and pitched down synths are perfectly placed to create an atmosphere that was manufactured in the mind of Sqwd.
Normally I prefer short songs but this is one of the few exceptions where the vibe of the track carries it through the entire time. There are no lulls or points that make you click away.
To me, this is the perfect type of song to place in a TV show and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see that happen at some point.
