22 year old Madison Olds just dropped her new single “The Best Part of Me”
She says the song was created in a “moment of mental disparity” while taking a solo writing trip to Nashville.
The track was produced and mixed by award-winning producer Ryan Worsley (Dear Rouge, Mathew V) at Echoplant Studios and mastered by Chris Gehringer (Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Drake) at Sterling Sound.
The track is a follow up to Madison’s 2018 debut album – Blue – which led to opportunities to open for Willie Nelson, Kacey Musgraves and more.
“The Best Part of Me” begins with a future bass kind of beat pulsing in.
Soft vocals quickly follow with really solid layering that really makes full use of vocals in the background. There are some really awesome moments in the use of vocal pitching as well.
The lyrics are vulnerable and open from the first line- “If I’m being honest I’m just insecure.”
Madison had this to say about the song-
“It feels really good to just sit on the floor, cry and give into an anxiety attack. This song is meant to make the listeners feel reassured with taking a moment to just feel sad. You don’t always have to be happy or even okay all the time.”
Overall, this single reminds me of Noah Cyrus and Ellie Goulding, neither comparison is a bad thing in my book.
The guitar/bass riff during the chorus is strangely Tycho-esque and a really good choice for this track.
The ending is kind of abrupt but to be honest it made me think “Oh, it’s over?! I have to hear that again.”
I don’t know if that was a strategic move but it definitely left me wanting more.
I’m excited to see what else Madison will release throughout the rest of the year. After all, we need some pop music to brighten up the world right now.
