Kansas City emo/post hardcore band Remorsefully Numb formed in 2016 and put out their debut EP in 2018.
They spent a lot of time touring with bands like Rarity and Future Teens.
A lot of modern emo music tends to fall flat for me. This is not the case with Remorsefully Numb.
Their new single “Sapling” hits hard from the very beginning.
There’s an appropriate amount of build up complete with rain noises in the background.
The way the guitar and drums are layered reminds me of one of my favorite bands that didn’t last long enough, The Receiving End of Sirens.
Once the vocals kick in and we get to the chorus, the Taking Back Sunday influence becomes clear. Although, I have to say “Sapling” is a bit more dynamic than the TBS discography.
All that said, the band gave me a quick rundown of their 10 Favorite Albums to celebrate the release of their new track:
ANDREW GIBSON (VOCALS/GUITAR)
Nirvana- In Utero
“This record captures the dirty, rough angst that was found on Bleach but with the mature and seasoned sound of Nevermind. In Utero is the perfect display of rage and rock n’ roll.”
Pinback- Summer in Abbadon
“I think this record is an indie dream. With the overwhelming emotion and progressive instrumentation, Summer in Abaddon holds a special place in my heart.”
Duster- Stratosphere
“I absolutely love instrumentals. Being that this record is mostly that, it truly takes me on a journey mentally and the lyrics that are heard hit hard.”
CHAZ FLORIDO (GUITAR)
Violent Soho- Hungry Ghost
“Violent Soho’s Aussie grunge tone is what keeps my attention. This band can go from in your face to quiet and soothing in an instant which is similar to my own playing.”
Gleemer- Anymore
“I love the shoegaze melodies mixed with soft, hard hitting vocal hooks. Anymore is so good it almost seemed familiar from the first listen.”
JAKE AYERS (DRUMS)
The Police- Synchronicity
“My dad was one to really get me involved with music that required a band to go with vocals. Something about seeing a group collectively capture time and bend it in their own rhythm and sound is what caught my attention at a young age.”
The Used- Self Titled
“This album was introduced to me by my older brother when I was in elementary school. My dad introduced me to the idea of bands, but my brother then steered the ship as far as my musical inspirations by passing down his taste in music.”
Taking Back Sunday- Tell All Your Friends
“Passed down yet again from my older brother, this one helped me in times of having no one or anything. This was one I tended to fallback on a bit in life.”
WARREN BEAL (BASS)
Narrowhead- Satisfaction
“This album is very solid through and through. Every song is a banger.”
Balance and Composure- The Things We Think We Are Missing
“This album is a staple in the post hardcore community. This album has very amazing production.”
