Players Eat Sushi is a 28 year old rapper who was born in Florida and raised between Jamaica and Georgia.
He also happens to have one of the best monikers in the game right now.
After living in Jamaica for several years as a teenager, he says he started to gain perspective on the things we consider problems here in America.
“things we consider problems are really only as big as we make them.”
He describes his goal in making music, “to motivate and inspire as many people as possible to believe in themselves and rise up out of any circumstances their going through. Our society places value on other people’s opinions and being co-signed by people with giant platforms but my message is that even when no one else believes in you, it only takes you to light that flame. You are enough.”
He draws influence from Kanye, Lupe Fiasco, and Freddie Gibbs among others.
Now, a comparison to Kanye West doesn’t feel quite fair, but that’s exactly what I was reminded of upon first listen to Players Eat Sushi’s new single.
The playfulness, creativity, and affinity for structure are something that he must have been born with, because I don’t believe they can be taught this well.
After spending 3 years in jail and prison at age 21, Players Eat Sushi says he gained a whole new respect for his time.
He’s certainly not wasting any of it in 2020, releasing his newest single, “That’s So Raven”.
The best way to sum up Players is using his own words,
“I’m solely focused on the positive despite all adversity.”
