Overcoming Self Doubt with Old Fame

Old Fame formed from the ashes of the members’ former projects in 2018.
They site their main musical influences as Manchester Orchestra, Fleet Foxes, and Radiohead.
I can’t say I disagree but upon first and subsequent listens of their new single, “Cumberland” I couldn’t help but draw comparisons to Circa Survive. Both instrumentally and vocally. Silky, haunting vocals are sporadic throughout this 4 minute track. The moments where the vocals fade out, the guitar riffs lull you into a trance.
The end of “Cumberland” reminds me of the breakdown from “Get Out”.
For some reason, yelling is just a great way to end a song.
“Cumberland” is about perseverance and overcoming self doubt, which I think is a more relevant topic than ever.
Old Fame are staring indie rock giants in their face and challenging them by making something creative and original. I give these guys a lot of credit for making something that’s so accessible and also uniquely their own.
