To Bloom is a five-piece Progressive Rock outfit based in Portland, Oregon. Fans of Closure and Moscow, Makari, and Wolf & Bear need not look further.
With influences from Jazz, Post-Hardcore, Math Rock, and R&B, To Bloom is a band that guarantees a fresh take on the Prog-Rock scene. The band is currently working on a four track EP.
The band’s core members (pictured below from left to right), Kevin Payne (Lead Guitarist), Bruno Lopez-Vargas (Vocalist), and Alex Massenkoff (Bassist), have been playing music together for over a decade and with the addition of their two newest members, Shanon Seratt (Guitarist) and Logan Gardner (Drummer) they’ve finally rounded out their sound.
There’s something theatrical about the soaring vocals over smooth guitar riffs. The track is well mixed but not overly polished. It feels like Kurt Travis-era DGD at moments.
Normally any song over 4 minutes loses my interest. “Marionette” runs just over 5 minutes and it’s compelling the whole way through.
This new single also features another one of my favorite vocalists, Joey Holiday of Anemoria.
To Bloom is one of the most appealing progressive rock bands I’ve heard lately. If this single is any indication of what’s to come, their upcoming EP should be a breath of fresh air.
