ADORNS just came across my radar back in October. They recently dropped a new single and video called “With What Sacrifice”.
The track starts with a synth line that feels straight out of a She Wants Revenge song. Guitars float in and bring with them a melody that is certainly akin to Interpol. It feels hypnotic and you almost start to wonder if there are vocals at all. Even if there weren’t this is a hypnotizing instrumental that is strong enough to stand alone.
When the vocals do hit they act to soothe rather than instigate. I was expecting something a bit more brash and I was pleasantly surprised with the 80’s new wave vibes.
The video is simple enough with colorful flashing lights and a person (I can only assume the singer) in a leotard, black leather gloves and a sort of makeshift veil.
This strikes me as a band that really should have toured with a band like Depeche Mode or The Cure. There’s something very dark about it, yet it maintains a pop sensibility that makes it that much more easily digested.
Bottom line, I can’t wait to hear more from ADORNS in 2020.
