Music festivals have changed a lot over the years. From the inception of Perry Ferrell’s Lollapalooza (1991) to genre specific festivals like Electric Daisy Carnival and Rolling Loud.
More and more of these events pop up around the world, lest we forget the original music festival. The one that set the groundwork for what was to come and shifted the culture of an entire generation, Woodstock.
The original Woodstock festival was held in 1969. Creedence Clearwater Revivial was the first act to sign on to perform and were paid $10,000 (the equivalent of $68,000 today).
Many more acts would follow signing on to perform at this brand new music experience. Santana, Grateful Dead, The Who, and Jimi Hendrix just to name a few.
Woodstock returned in 1979, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2009, and now here we are in 2019 celebrating 50 years.
When the new lineup was announced I couldn’t help but notice an overwhelming response of people disappointed with this group of artists. With headliners like Miley Cyrus and Jay-Z, some weren’t sure if this flyer was even real.
I definitely hope there is another round of artists announced as I don’t think this current lineup truly reflects the celebration of 50 years of Woodstock.
Check out the current lineup and let us know what you think. Who are you looking forward to seeing? Who should they add to the festival?
Woodstock 2019 will be held on August 16, 17, & 18 in Watkins Glen, NY
