Who Is Flawp?

Alissa AKA Flawp was born & raised in Atlanta. Writing has always been something she’s passionate about. Her earliest memory of creating art with my words is when she won 2nd place for a writing competition in 5th grade. The topic of the paper was why it was important to do homework.
When she was 13 years old she made a SoundCloud account & everything she knew about music became different. She found different artists with different sounds & ever since then music had her in a self described daydream.
In 2013/2014 she started doing mixes of already existing songs. At 13, she was becoming a producer and gaining a fan base from her mixes.
Some of them are still up because, in her words she “can’t forget where I came from.” After that Flawp began to focus more on writing poetry because, in her words, “I live for my art and Fuck doing art for grades.”
In her sophomore year of high school she started taking part in guitar club. One of her friends played bass for a band, but little did she know that the band would actually stay after school to rap into the microphone and basically experiment with music.
They inspired her to step out of her comfort zone & make her first original song. Recorded on a school laptop with iPhone headphones and a Google Chrome app.
The song was called “Pussy Power” featuring her friend Evan aka Stepfatherevan. They were both recording low quality music at this time & still are. In her words, “It’s kind of a wave. Low quality trap/underground sounds are dope to me.”
She describes herself as shy and says that’s probably why she hasn’t shot a visual yet. She noticed her voice was quiet in her first few songs. She was featured on the track “Yungtedbundy” with her homie thirtvvn in early 2018. That when she realized that pent up emotions could be released through music.
“If I seem angry or hostile in some of my songs it’s because I am. Being introverted for years takes a toll on you. Eventually those mixed emotions that you’ve been locking inside of you, will start to leak. I use music as a way to drain my anger.”
She sites some of her main influences as Xxxtentacion, Xavier Wulf, Chris Travis, Spaceghostpurrp and Suicide Boys. This is a raw and uncut female artist who can come off as hard. She’s clearly not doing this for the popularity or the hopes of gaining attention.
In regards to how she feels about her art Flawp had this to say,
“I’ll die for my art and I’ll stand by it whether no one listens to it or if my shit is playing on the radio. I really believe the music industry is evil and I haven’t been promoting my music to the fullest, out of not wanting to be in the spotlight. I know I can be something big, and I will make those moves when I decide the time is right. Even though I’m not that big of an artist at the moment, I still get comments and messages from people I’ve never met telling me how much they love my music. People from many states and countries. It’s amazing. All I want is to be a blessing to people & I’m already fulfilling that. I want people to feel this shit.”
