Rock music fans everywhere got an unexpected early Christmas present last month with the official announcement of The Sound of Animals Fighting tour.
For those who are unfamiliar, TSOAF is a sort of “supergroup” founded by Rich Balling of Rx Bandits.
In the band’s initial run, they released three studio albums between 2004 and 2008, and performed only four live shows, following their second release in 2006.
The band’s live lineup consisted of 12 musicians in 2006, most of whom contributed to at least one studio album.
The band released a DVD documenting the shows entitled “We Must Become The Change We Want To See.”
In 2014, the live lineup changed to consist of only 7 musicians, “the core four and guests” as Rich Balling said in a 2014 interview. They played a short run of 7 shows in March of 2014.
And now here we are in 2019 with the gift that none of us expected or deserved, a new Sound of Animals Fighting tour with 9 dates spaced across the country.
We don’t know what to expect when it comes to how many musicians will play on this tour or what the stage show will look like. Those unknowns and the fact that these are the band’s first shows since 2014 make this one of the most anticipated tours of 2019.
