Bobby Mahoney and the Seventh Son are an alternative rock band from New Brunswick, NJ. They have been around since December 2010 and originally called themselves “The Seventh Son.”
Just recently released their self titled album on March 23, 2018. They caught a lot of attention on the local rock scene in New Jersey but originally were intended only for a single show.
In 2012 they released their first EP Only Ashes Remain which featured both studio and live tracks. The band was also nominated for the award of Top Young Band both in 2013 and 2014 for the Asbury Park Music Awards.
In 2014 they decided to change their name to Bob Mahoney and the Seventh Son and also made some lineup changes and they released their full studio album Friends in Low Places.
The band has had the privilege of sharing the stage with acts like Bon Jovi, Work in Progress, The Verve Pipe, The Gaslight Anthem, and also Palisades. In 2015 they released their second album The Outskirts and was also named Best Rock Band at the 2015 Asbury Park Awards. In 2016 the band released their third album A Shot in the Dark and went on a ten day tour. This is a list of the ten albums that influenced them most.
Bruce Springsteen- Born to Run
“One of the greatest classic rock records ever, in my opinion. From the start with “Thunder Road,” through the last notes of “Jungleland,” this album is a masterpiece, and the song Born to Run still gets me charged up.”
AC/DC- Let There Be Rock
“The name of our band derives from “Bad Boy Boogie” on this record, and the whole thing just rips. The guitars cut like buzz saws, and it’s just an incredible hard rock album.”
The Menzingers- After the Party
“This album is probably our most-played in the truck while we are traveling to and from shows. Every song is great and it has a lot of references to life on the road, and there’s a lot to relate to in general – just a great album all the way through.”
Against Me!- 23 Live Sex Acts
“We couldn’t pick a favorite against me record for this, so we went with the live album. They play straight up, energetic rock, with awesome, catchy songs – definitely one of our collective favorite bands. This album has amazing performances on it.”
Motörhead- Icon (Greatest Hits)
“Before every show we play, Andrew blasts “Ace of Spades,” “We Are the Road Crew” and “Louie Louie.” It’s a great way to get us energized and ready to play. Rest In Peace, Lemmy.”

Guns N’ Roses- Appetite for Destruction
“Just another, awesome, badass record. Jon likes this album a lot because of GNR’s short creative time they were able to create what was essentially a greatest hits album. Some really iconic songs on there.”
Green Day- American Idiot
“James and I bond over Green Day a lot, and their songs and stage energy have definitely influenced the band. I remember being at the 6th grade dance and they played this song and 500 kids screamed the curses when the school bleeped them out. Another “greatest hits” type record for them, and one of the biggest rock records I’ve been alive for.”
Led Zeppelin- Zeppelin 1
“Zeppelin is awesome and they definitely paved the way for heavier rock bands. Enough said.”
Foo Fighters- There’s Nothing Left to Lose
“Another band we had trouble picking one album (Bobby: I would have picked Wasting Light) but this album has “Generator” and “Aurora”. They are able to hit so many different musical ideas on this album, some of their best songwriting, and I love the production.”
The Gaslight Anthem- 59 Sound
“This was the first record of theirs that I heard when I was younger, and Brian’s writing has been a big influence on mine. He is able to do “a lot with a little” and I love when writers are simple in their delivery. It’s a perfect blend of classic Jersey imagery with a New Brunswick punk edge.”
