Gucci Mane & Metro Boomin Drop Collab Project

At this point, Gucci Mane‘s run in the game is legendary. Rather than let doing a 3 year prison bid slow him down, he dropped a solid run of mixtapes while locked up, and  after his release last May, came back and made his place in the current culture climate like he never left.  After already dropping his albums Everybody Lookin last July and The Return Of East Atlanta Santa in December, Gucci links with Metro Boomin, arguably the best producer of the modern generation, to drop another incredibly solid project with DropTopWop.

Post prison Gucci is like a more refined version of himself when it comes to rap, maintaining a type of new clarity that I assume comes from his new found sobriety and healthy lifestyle. His voice is sharper, and his lyrics are wittier, but he still holds strong weight with his voice and brings the same amount of energy that he did in the past. The pairing of this new form of Wop with Metro’s ear for production quality creates what might be his most defining project yet, at least of this modern run. Start to finish, this project contains Guwop in like a 2nd prime, where he’s grown in strength and resonance with every project he’s released since he got out. With Metro executive producing, and with the help of features from 2Chainz, Young Dolph, and Migos’ Offset, Gucci gets taken to new heights to deliver some of his most high quality music yet.
