Supermarkets in France have been banned from throwing away spoiled or unsold food. The new law was generated after a petition was created by Courbevoie Councillor Arash Derambarsh. As a result, the supermarkets are now required to sign a donation deal with charities who will then donate the unwanted food to food banks and charities. If the supermarket doesn’t comply they may be subject to heavy fines. The next step is to get the system put in place across the entire EU. Nik Zecevic and Sasha Kai Parker discuss how France is combating food waste on the Lip News.
