“We Just Want to Play Some Music and Get People Moving” – Interview with Amarionette

Amarionette has become a staple in the post hardcore and alternative rock scene. With a recent line up change the band’s new EP Amrvi mixes their old sound along with a new feel to it by adding more synth in the background and less screams while focusing on the vocals of the lead singer. The music still has the same flow as the rest of the band’s discography and it’s easy to tell that they their style has grown and matured.

Even though the guys are flying solo and going at it unsigned, they certainly don’t need any help because their new EP is not only catchy but is also easy to listen to and has that mass audience appeal. The band formed back in 2010 and Teal Cheese has been fortunate enough to correspond with these guys a few times. Once again, I’ve had the chance to catch up with the band and they were nice enough to take time out of their busy schedule to answer a few questions. Here’s what they had to say.

TC: How has the album Amrvi and its writing style been different from the past?

A: “The only thing that really differed during this album was more of the recording process. We have been going to Portland to record the last few albums. The drums were recorded in Portland but the rest of the album was recorded here. The other thing that was different was of course the electronic elements and synth elements that were added to the songs.”

TC: Now that you are no longer technically signed to a label, do you feel like you have more freedom to make the music you want? How is being an unsigned band different from belonging to a label?

A: “Being signed to Esque wasn’t like being signed to a Major deal. Kurt was always very supportive of anything really. He would almost encourage us to experiment and let us have complete freedom with our sound. So, nothing has really changed.”

TC: Are there any artists that you would like to work with or already have plans to have featured on your music in the near future?

A: “As you know we worked with Andres which was awesome. We have worked with Kurt before and with Tillian which was awesome too, but I don’t know if we have any plans to work with anyone in the future. We are for sure open to it and would love for it to happen. So no plans right now but who knows what the future may hold for us and our collaborations.”

TC: What is one band, group or artist that you look up to that you would like to go on tour with or have already had the chance to share the stage with?

A: I think each one of us have groups that we look up to and would love to tour with but I think one that all of us love and would love to tour with would probably be Circa Survive. Also, Nick is one of the biggest Saosin fans this side of the Mississippi so that of course would be a band we would love to tour with as well. Paramore would fall somewhere at the top of that list as well.

TC: Aside from making music, are there any other interests, obsessions, hobbies, or activities of leisure that the band is into?

“Nick is obsessed with crime shows and knows more about sports then anyone else I know. He is also very knowledgeable in Star Wars. Its pretty impressive. He also loves Halloween and October as a whole. I’m pretty sure Stranger Things inspired the Amrvri EP.”
