It’s been three years since Circa Survive released Decensus. It seems like that amount of time has gone by suspiciously quickly. In the meantime we have watched Anthony Green and Co. tour pretty much endlessly and it was assumed that more music was being recorded. Of course, these guys don’t ever take a day off and yesterday they released what I have seen referred to many times now as “their best album since Blue Sky Noise.”
In 2014 Decensus peaked at #40 on the Billboard 200, not even coming close to Blue Sky Noise which peaked at #11 back in 2010.
The Amulet packs a punch and from the very first 10 seconds of the intro you know you’re in for a ride. This marks Circa’s first release with Hopeless Records. It seems to me that none of the band members held back on this record as it seemed they had done on previous releases. This, to me, could easily be a Circa Survive self titled record. It’s pretty indicative of who they are sonically and there’s equal parts heavy and soft tones.
