MY 10 FAVORITE ALBUMS: RadioBlack

The California trio RadioBlack released their debut album back in May and they show no signs of slowing down.
If you’re looking for something that’s a modern take on 90’s rock, this is the band for you. They recorded the self titled album at Studio 606 (Foo Fighters’ private studio) and ended up with a solid feel-good rock record.

Soundgarden – Superunknown
“Soundgarden at their best – the intricacies in the rhythm section and guitar riffs throughout this album are unbelievable, and still serve the songs – great start to finish.”

Nirvana – Nevermind
“A pretty obvious choice but there’s no getting around it. This flipped rock on its head. All the music we loved in the 90’s had its road paved by this record.”

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Californication
“I always love their riffs and the way they merge funk and rock, but this album tapped into a dark nostalgia that really struck a chord with me.”

Silverchair – Neon Ballroom
“This album combines grunge with orchestral arrangements in a way that I’ve never heard anywhere else. To think they were 19 when they recorded this blows my mind.”

Led Zeppelin- Led Zeppelin II
“Not much we can say about this that hasn’t already been said – Its a Rock n’ Roll Bible. Simple as that!”

Rage Against the Machine – Evil Empire
“This was a truly innovative album. Rage was one of those bands that created their own sound and almost their own genre within rock – no one could ever replicate it.”

The Beatles – White Album
“Not much we can say about this that hasn’t already been said either – listening to this growing up, over and over again, along with the rest of the Beatles catalogue, really set up my songwriting foundation and appreciation for melody.”

Deftones – White Pony
“Similar to Rage, these guys created such a unique sound that can’t be replicated. And for me personally, this is the album they did it best on.”

The Foo Fighters – Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace
“Its tough to single out one Foo Fighters record – they have all been incredibly impactful on us. This one I tend to circle back to more than any other. The merger of the Foo’s acoustic side with their full rock sound really did it for me.”

Tears for Fears – Songs from the Big Chair
“During the cheesiest era in music, these guys managed to put out a record that dominated the charts and had some real darkness to it. I’ve always been blown away by Roland’s voice and melodies.”
