When you listen to Luca Chesney you can’t help but draw comparisons to Björk. Strange drum patterns and vocal effects are combined perfectly to create hypnosis with every listen.
She is very obviously an artist who knows her influences and channels them together in a way that’s consistently interesting. She gave me a run down of what those influences are:
Lauryn Hill- The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
“I grew up in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, we loved music but the selection available was pretty narrow. I remember one night in Santo Domingo (when the electricity was actually on) I heard Lauryn Hill sing in Sister Act 2. My small heart was on fire, it felt like a calling. Sia- Lady Croissant

This sounds ridiculous but once at a very small San Diego show in the old days, she picked me out of the crowd and asked my name and dedicated “Breathe Me” to me. She had this intensely beautiful, trance-inducing stage presence…Lady Croissant captures this so well.”
