Many of us know Sonny Moore as one of the most successful DJ/producers of the last ten years: Skrillex.
What may be unfamiliar to some is that Sonny used to sing in a band called From First To Last. He joined the band right before they released their first full length, Dear Diary…, back in 2004. He was only 16 at the time and the band took the scene by storm. He recorded another record with the band in 2006 titled Heroine and after that we saw him branch out as a solo electronic act.
Fast forward to 2017. We have watched Skrillex play all over the world and sell out arenas. Then, to everyone’s surprise on his birthday (January 15) he reunited with FFTL to record the song, “Make War”. Many people began to speculate if this was alluding to a comeback from the post hardcore powerhouse.
Then, just last night (February 7) From First to Last did a surprise performance at Emo Nite in Los Angeles.
Bassist Matt Manning and drummer Derek Bloom were back on stage with the band. That was Bloom’s first performance with the band since his departure in 2010.
The set begins with “The One Armed Boxer vs. The Flying Guillotine” and moves into tracks like “Secrets Don’t Make Friends,” “Kiss Me I’m Contagious,” “Note to Self”, and “Ride the Wings of Pestilence”. The band also played crowd favorite, “Emily” and their new single “Make War”.
