A lot of the music we cover on this site has a pretty common progressive theme. Ask any of the songwriters behind the music to name a few bands that influenced them and I guarantee you at least one of those names would be Circa Survive. The act begun as a project in the wake of Anthony Green’s now-defunct absence from Saosin. Their first two releases defined the sound of a newly reemerging era of progressive, emo, and post-hardcore music. Now along with several other bands, Circa is celebrating the ten-year anniversary of their genre-defining second full-length, On Letting Go. The timeless collection of songs was initially released through Equal Vision Records on May 29th of 2007, making a footprint on the Billboard 200 chart at #24 with around 24,000 first-week sales; the band is celebrating this achievement again ten years later by kicking off the tour in January of 2017. On Letting Go is quite possibly one of the band’s most-acknowledged and recognized records known widely by its unforgettable artwork from the band’s close friend and go-to artist, Esao Andrews.
Frontman Anthony Green was quoted on the band’s Facebook saying “So many moments on that record personified what Circa Survive was starting to become. I’m really excited to revisit that with all of the knowledge we’ve been able to pick up since. It was a wild time in my life and it’s kind of an escape for me now to go back to that and celebrate it!” Everyone who follows the band and makes it out to one of these shows is in for a huge celebration for this record. Green has also hinted recently in a Reddit AMA that CS will be recording their next record very soon although dates have not yet been released.
Joining them on the tour will be mewithoutYou and Turnover. Tickets are already on sale with VIP Bundles and presales available through ShowStubs. VIP tickets (on sale for $100) will include a repressing of the vinyl with a VIP exclusive screenprinted jacket, an acoustic session, Q&A, and group photo with the band, as well as GA ticket, signed poster and OLG wall flag. These are very limited so grab yours as soon as possible!
With Anthony rejoining Saosin and releasing a new record with the band, Circa has been a bit reserved in the past year as far as tours and shows are concerned. The band did recently make a headlining appearance in Anaheim, CA at Chain Fest (read about it here!) alongside former Equal Vision labelmates and fellow alumni Coheed and Cambria but this year has been set aside for Green’s personal endeavors as he has released a new solo record just last month entitled Pixie Queen and has been touring in support of this the past two months.
