The Strokes- Future Present Past

Indie rock staples The Strokes have been relatively quiet in the past 3 years since the release of their album Comedown Machine. They’ve played some festival spots and apparently they’ve been hard at work on new material.
Out of nowhere last month the band announced they would be releasing a new EP titled Future Present Past.

The Strokes began receiving critical acclaim with their debut release This Is It, which ended up on Rolling Stone and NME‘s list of the Greatest Albums of All Time.
This new single and it’s lyrics are a lot more intense than I’d anticipated. It’s as though the band has found a way to go back to their roots and improve upon their sound instead of trying to change it altogether.
The lyric video for the first single off the EP, “Drag Queen”, is a nod to everything new wave and vaporwave.
This is the kind of release that makes fans everywhere anxious to see what kind of stage show The Strokes have on their inevitable upcoming tour.
Future Present Past marks the third official release on lead singer Julian Casablancas’ record label, Cult Records.

Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
80s people dancing, oooh
Always get it right
I’d listen but I can’t tonight
I can’t tonight, I can’t tonight
Well, it’s something that you do to get it right
End up reviled for it
Yeah, that’s the thanks I get

[Chorus]
I don’t understand
Your fucked-up system
This sinister city
Try to sell the water
Try to sell the air
Try to sell your daughter
Try to sell her hair
Verse:

[Bridge 1]
‘We all want to watch the fight’
‘Is it on Sunday?’
Hide in a hole with a gun in your hand in front of
Someone you want dead, I guess?
Hiding in your suit…
