Fried Noodles Track Review (NSFW)

For those who haven’t already heard of YouTube anti-rap sensation “Pink Guy,” I’m sorry for both introducing you, and the fact that you’ve missed out on knowing about him. You may, however, know the titular character from his viral debut “Harlem Shake” from the channel Dizastamusic, now known as the infamous YouTuber, Filthy Frank.

George “Joji” Miller is an NYU student with a lot of time on his hands, and most of it goes to funding the YouTube personality known as Filthy Frank. The Filthy Frank Show has some of the most vile content that YouTube has to offer, and has obtained a cult-like following amongst the masses of the interwebz. Joji has also created several characters besides Filthy Frank, such as the Dark Lord Chin Chin, who requires sacrifices every year around christmas time, Salamander Man, a musical half salamander/half human hybrid, and the prolific morph-suit rapper known only as Pink Guy. During the summer of 2014, Filthy Frank dropped one of the most… “questionable” hip hop releases of the decade, totally for free on SoundCloud, as social commentary on “undiscovered” hip hop artists for “releasing their fire mixtapes” on social media (spamming it to their friends constantly on Facebook). Not only does the album contain social commentary on the modern underground rap genre in general, but it also contains social commentary on internet social justice activists, memes, and other personal issues (the friendzone[?]). The instrumentation not only included electronic elements, but also included small ukulele interludes. Filthy Frank has also collaborated with internet personality Cal Chuchesta on his album The New Calassic.

Frank Of The Filth eventually announced he would be making a separate channel dubbed “Pink Omega,” created specifically for any future hip-hop releases. Recently we’ve had the joy of having the song Trap Dumplings, fitting the vibe of the food-based tracks from the Pink Guy album Ramen King, and Fried Rice. And now we seem to have another food-based track, Fried Noodles.

The track itself definitely is just as in your face as the last few tracks and Pink Guy album, however, I would not say it’s as NSFW as some of the older and rougher tracks. This is actually a step in the right direction, especially considering that when asked about the next album, Miller stated that the next album would be a more fleshed out approach at his anti-rap style. That isn’t to say the track isn’t still comical, as the weird and eccentric wit of Papa Franku is still just as heavy on this track. Lines like “pussy pussy pussy, can’t you see, you bitches can’t do it like me,” and “I’m a flying reptile, a pterodactyl on adderall, I got a bunch of scales that I dug up, ya never heard at all.” I won’t ruin the rest of the lines for you, but there’s a great stab at Hill Dawg somewhere in there.

The refrain on this track is definitely a bit more fleshed out than most of Franku’s other tracks as well, consisting of some of the man’s weirdest and most charming ukelele and singing. The other pieces of instrumentation on this track work as well – the low tuba line and backing beat work on keeping that “sly” and “chill” feel that the track definitely is going for. Frank’s vocals are also spot on, as the low nasally voice works well over the verse beats. Over all, I’m very pleased with the track in general, and can’t wait to see what Miller has to offer on the future Pink Guy album.
Here’s to you Joji!
