On last night’s edition of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, R&B legend D’Angelo was joined by Prince tribute band Princess (comprised of Maya Rudolph and Gretchen Lieberum), to perform a stark and intimate tribute to the Purple One. This unusual combination of artists performed a stirring rendition of Prince’s “Sometimes It Snows in April”. The haunting closing track of Parade tells the story of a man who struggled in life and died young in the month of April – a story which is given added meaning through D’Angelo’s haunting re-interpretation, refocused through the tragic lens of Prince’s passing… also in April.
