Every year since it was founded in 2007, thousands of musicians, bands, collectors, and business owners have participated in Record Store Day. Observed the third Saturday of every April, the event promises to usher in hundreds of exclusive and limited vinyl pressings to be released and sold. 2014’s set of releases brought us the first glimpse of new music in over 14 years from Emo/Alt Rock frontrunners Sunny Day Real Estate. In 2015, Foo Fighters released Songs From the Laundry Room on 10″ vinyl; a collection of demos they recorded in Seattle with producer Barrett Jones (produced albums by Nirvana, The Fall of Troy, Set Your Goals). This year’s set of releases were made available on March 9 at the official Record Store Day website as a downloadable PDF document and a list complete with cover art you can view here. The nationally recognized event proves its worth annually as both an awesome event for audiophiles and record collectors to expand their libraries and as a profitable platform for musicians and labels to release and sell their music on the formerly defunct format that has regained an impressive amount of popularity and value in the past decade. Whether or not you are a collector, it’s a great opportunity to gather up some records and support your local record store and favorite musicians. If you want to find a store in your area, there’s a locator you can use at the website. I’ve included a list of some notable releases as well as a few I’m personally looking forward to below with any of the pressing info that’s been made available.
