For those of you who are too young to remember who At The Drive-In is, understand that before The Mars Volta and Antemasque was ATDI. The first real example I can remember of progressive/post-hardcore music that really was unique.
Their last album “Relationship Of Command” (released in 2000) brought the band their first bit of mainstream recognition and success. The record was on almost every “Top Albums” list and for the last 16 years it has remained a rock staple. It’s often cited as one of the most influential rock albums of it’s generation.
In 2012 the band reunited for a few shows, but Omar (Rodriguez-Lopez) expressed that he felt like he “couldn’t relate” to the person singing those songs anymore. Fans of At The Drive-In just assumed we’d never see or hear of the group again. After all, the members all had side projects and things to do. There were rumors of a new Antemasque album this year, but just yesterday ATDI officially announced dates for a 2016 World Tour and a new album this year as well.
